Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8th July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Moving Brighton ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares and protects your personal information when you use our website movingbrighton.co.uk and request removal quotes through it.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data openly and transparently. Please read this policy carefully so you understand what happens to your information — in particular, how it is shared with removal companies, which is central to the service we provide.

1. Who we are

Moving Brighton is a lead-generation service that connects people moving home in Brighton, Hove and the surrounding area with vetted, independent local removal companies. We are not a removal company ourselves — we introduce you to removal companies who can quote for your move.

For the purposes of UK data protection law, the data controller is Moving Brighton. You can contact us about this policy, or about anything relating to your personal data, at:

Email: hello@movingbrighton.co.uk

We're happy to handle any privacy query by email and will respond as quickly as we can.

2. What information we collect

When you request quotes through our website, we collect the information you provide in the quote form, which typically includes:

  • Your move details — the address or area you're moving from, the address or area you're moving to, your preferred move date, and details about the property and move (such as property size and any relevant requirements).

  • Your contact details — your name, email address and phone number.

We also automatically collect some technical information when you use our website, such as your IP address, browser type, device information, and how you interact with the site. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies (see section 7).

We do not ask for, and you should not send us, sensitive information such as payment card details, financial account numbers, or special category data (for example health information). We don't need this to introduce you to removal companies.

3. How we collect your information

We collect your information in the following ways:

  • Directly from you — when you complete and submit our quote request form.

  • Automatically — through cookies and analytics tools when you browse our website.

  • Through phone calls — when you speak with a removal company via a tracking number connected to your enquiry (see section 6).

4. Why we use your information and our lawful basis

We use your information to:

  • Connect you with removal companies who can provide quotes for your move.

  • Pass limited details of your move to those companies so they can prepare a quote and contact you through a tracking number (see section 5).

  • Operate, monitor and improve our service, including verifying the quality and validity of enquiries.

  • Communicate with you about your enquiry.

  • Meet our legal and regulatory obligations.

Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), we rely on the following lawful bases:

  • To provide the service you requested — when you submit the quote form, processing your details (including sharing them with removal companies) is necessary to deliver the introduction you have asked us to make. Where required, this also relies on your consent, which you give by submitting the form knowing your details will be shared with up to three removal companies.

  • Our legitimate interests — to run, protect and improve our business, provided this does not override your rights.

  • Legal obligation — where we need to process data to comply with the law.

You can withdraw your consent at any time (see section 10), though this won't affect any sharing that has already taken place, and removal companies who have already received your details will hold them under their own privacy policies.

5. Who we share your information with

This is the most important part of how our service works, so please read it carefully.

When you submit a quote request, we pass a limited amount of information to up to three (3) independent local removal companies from our vetted partner network, so they can prepare a quote for your move. Importantly, we do not hand over your direct contact details — you stay in control of those.

What we share with removal companies:

  • Your name

  • The size of your move

  • Your move date, and whether that date is confirmed

  • The locations you're moving from and to

  • The property types at each location

  • Access details — such as which floor you're on and whether there's a lift

  • Any additional services you've requested

What we do not share with removal companies:

  • Your phone number — removal companies contact you through a tracking phone number that keeps your real number private. They never see the number you gave us.

  • Your email address — this stays with us and is not passed on.

You choose whether to share your direct contact details. When a removal company speaks with you, it's entirely your decision whether to give them your own phone number, email address or any other details. Nothing obliges you to. If you do choose to share your contact details directly with a removal company, that information is then held by them under their own privacy policy.

Once a removal company has received your details, it becomes an independent data controller of that information and is responsible for how it handles it. We are not responsible for what a removal company does with information you choose to give it directly.

We only share information with companies in our vetted partner network, and only for the purpose of quoting for your move. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with anyone outside this process for unrelated marketing.

We may also share your information with:

  • Service providers who help us operate — for example, our website, automation, telephony, hosting and analytics providers (see section 8). These providers act on our instructions as data processors.

  • Legal and regulatory authorities — where we are required to do so by law, or to protect our rights, safety or property.

6. Call tracking and phone numbers

To help us understand which enquiries lead to contact and to improve our service, we use tracking phone numbers. When a removal company calls you about your enquiry, the call may be routed through one of our tracking numbers before connecting to you.

These tracking numbers also keep your real phone number private: the removal company dials the tracking number, which connects the call to you, so the company never sees the number you gave us. You'll see the removal company's own number when they call.

This means we may record the fact that a call took place, its time and duration, and the numbers involved (call metadata). We use this to attribute enquiries and measure how well the service is working. We do not listen to or record the content of your calls.

7. Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to make the site work, to understand how visitors use it, and to measure the performance of our advertising. This includes analytics and advertising tools such as Google Analytics and Google Ads conversion tracking.

Some cookies are essential for the site to function; others are optional and are only set where you have given consent. You can manage your cookie preferences through the cookie banner on our site and through your browser settings.

8. Where your information is stored and processed

We use a number of trusted third-party providers to run our service. These currently include providers for our website, workflow automation, telephony, hosting and analytics. These providers process data on our behalf under appropriate data protection terms.

Some of these providers are based outside the UK, including in the United States. Where your personal data is transferred outside the UK, we take steps to ensure it is protected to a standard equivalent to UK law — for example, by relying on UK adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses / the UK International Data Transfer Agreement.

9. How long we keep your information

We keep your personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including to operate the service, meet legal and accounting obligations, and resolve any disputes.

In practice, we retain enquiry and contact records for no more then 12 months from the date of your enquiry, after which they are deleted or anonymised, unless we are required to keep them longer by law. Removal companies who have received your details keep them under their own retention policies.

10. Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.

  • Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.

  • Erasure — ask us to delete your information in certain circumstances.

  • Restriction — ask us to limit how we use your information.

  • Portability — receive your information in a portable format.

  • Object — object to certain processing, including direct marketing.

  • Withdraw consent — where we rely on your consent, withdraw it at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@movingbrighton.co.uk. We will respond within one month. There is normally no charge, and we may need to verify your identity first.

Please note that once your details have been shared with removal companies, you may also need to contact those companies directly to exercise your rights in respect of the data they hold.

11. How to complain

If you have a concern about how we handle your data, please contact us first at hello@movingbrighton.co.uk so we can try to put it right.

You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO):

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
